All Hail the Queen

This is what I'm talkin about.
We played this whole album while we were building last weekend. I hadn't heard it since I bought the cassette back in '89 and it was flashback city the minute this song came on. It still holds up after all these years (L.O.T.U.G...not so much). Time to dig out my "Mama Gave Birth the Soul Children" 12". There's a reason why it's called The Golden Era - feel meh!

Exile "Radio" Release Party @ Low End Theory

*photos courtesy of Nadia*

Jesus, where do I even begin? I've never had a show like that in my entire career. The technical problems we faced were so beyond our control that all we could do was laugh about it. It was like battling thunderbolts and lightning being thrown from the heavens the way the sound kept freaking out on us. Then the signal for my MPC just up and stopped working 2 songs in. Mercury in retrograde or something. It was bugged to say the least, but we did it. The ending more than made up for all the bullshit we went through.
Thanks to everyone who made it out. It was definitely a night I won't forget.

*just got off the phone with Exile. Looks like we're gonna try the Low End Theory show again in Feb. Stay tuned...

Tomorrow already

So my blog power is at a low with all the craziness going on right now. I'm building a studio and getting ready to go on tour with Exile in support of his Radio album so posting is taking a backseat to real life-ness for a minute, but you know I always got something for the folks!

Many of you by now have heard of Mayer Hawthorne (who's recording a full length follow up to "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out"), but some might not know dude has been in it for a minute going by the name of Haircut. He's another Detroit/L.A. transplant (there's some connection with those 2 cities for real), singer, digger, dj, musician, producer and MC. I wouldn't be surprised if dude cuts hair too.
Anyway, check out some of his latest project, Now On with IX Lives and Jackson Perry.
Now available at iTunes and wherever good music is sold. My advice is to buy a real copy though. You get your choice of 3 different covers (word to Robert Palmer).

"We're All In Power"

When Ex told me a few months ago that he was making a stop motion video, my first thought was "that's nice. You're making a little animated movie for your Radio album". What came next was beyond anything I could have imagined. Big shout out to Wayne for putting this together (you outdid yourself on this one, homie).

Searching...

So I'm @ home trying to get over this cold (I should be drinking water, not coffee, right?) and just read an email from my man Vinroc. He's got a new label (Thats That Records) and a blog yall should check out.
For the 2 people out there who don't know who Vinroc is, he's 1/3 of the Triple Threat DJ's with Shortkut and Apollo and one of the founding members of NY's 5th Platoon. Not many people know though, my man has musical skills that faaaaar exceed DJing! Just check his original composition and his Roy Ayers remix below.

Be sure to check him out and support!

Justice for Oscar Grant III

JUSTICE FOR OSCAR GRANT
WEDNESDAY JANUARY 7, 2009
3pm - 7pm
FRUITVALE BART STATION OAKLAND, CA

If you don't know what this about watch this video:
http://www.ktvu.com/video/18409133/index.html

San Francisco BART Police shot and killed an unarmed man laying face down on the ground in front of dozens of witnesses. Completely unjustifiable cold blooded murder.

Tell everyone and anyone about this story so it makes the national news. No more of this bullshit.

Microphone Murderer

What would we do without DJ Mister Cee? Lord knows what other B.I.G. joints dude is sitting on.
I'm sure this has been all over the internet since I heard it last week, but I've been busy as hell and haven't had a chance to post it. This is prime time Biggie (pre-Puffy and hungry as hell).
