GOML

I drove up to LA yesterday to catch my man Cosmo Baker (The Rub) at The Do Over. He had folks gettin' down to everything from "Ante Up" to "Rockin' Robin " (!?) and made it all look easy. Dude is the consummate professional and a great friend. If you missed it, you missed it, yaoming? Always good to see my folks (shout out to Aloe "love...bizzare" Blacc, Steve1der, & Morse Code).

Friday

I was going through old files on my external and came across this blend I did a while back (so far back I totally forgot about it). I thought some folks might dig it. Enjoy and have a good weekend y'all.

Higher

More feel-goodness in the midst of all the madness...

These 2 cuts are from Inner Circle's Reggae Thing album (Capitol 1976). I just found another copy and put it on this morning as background music for my daily breakfast of coffee & cigarettes. I haven't played it in a while, but "Jah Music" is still my sh*t (perfect for a day like today) and "Groovin' In Love" is just as dope.

Love Me or Leave Me Alone

My man Maker out in Chicago (peace to the GAWDS) dropped this remix on me last week and gave me the go ahead to post it. He's been holding it down for a long, long time, not only with Glue, but on the solo tip. If you haven't heard his records on Galapagos 4, you're not enjoying your life to it's fullest capacity.

This sh*t is bananas.

Let Me Show Ya

New single from Jazzanova. It took a minute to grow on me, but I've had it on repeat ever since. Some super orchestrated, feel good music (why can't we hear stuff like this on the radio?). For those who liked Donnie's The Colored Section, this is for you. Be sure to cop the single and the new album when it drops this Oct.

My kingdom for a string section! So jelly right now...

Here's another joint they did last year for Belle et Fou, which was a live theatre performance Jazzanova composed.

My main man and brother from another mother, King Most (Plug Label/Kero One) just dropped a free mix for the masses and he couldn't have picked a better time. Feel free to pass this along to anyone and everyone and post it pon di interwebs. November is just around the corner...

KING MOST-THE OBAMIX

you're not gonna believe this schitt

I was walking my dog last night and she got loose and ran off into the desert. While I was stumbling around looking for her in the dark I heard a voice say "over here!". Next thing I know I see this old homeless looking dude by a bush with my dog sitting by him like they go way back. I walk over and say thank you, and he introduces himself as C.H. Now I didn't think anything of it at first, but he looked familiar. Then it hit me - but no way that could be him. I mean, wtf is Clutchy Hopkins doing sitting in the middle of the desert on a Tuesday night? So anyway, we got to talking and I mentioned I make music. His eyes lit up immediately and he says "follow me". I was kinda skeptical, but I always carry a Rambo knife and a roll of barbed wire in my pants for these type of situations, so I followed him around the corner of the canyon above. What happened next you wouldn't believe if I told you, so I took pictures for proof.
After hiking up into the canyon he takes me to this cave that's FULL of instruments and recording equipment. He was running it all off of 2 generators and a bike rigged up like Gilligan's Island. Shit was unreal.
Anyway, after jamming for a while he said he had to go. He was leaving soon (something about Botswana and "awakening of the truth spirit") but we did record a few things before I left. Maybe one day someone will find those reel to reels and you can hear what a crazy trip it was.

Jeremy Ellis - Live @ Do Over

Here's some highlights of Jeremy Ellis' set @ Do Over from last weekend. I edited out some of the technical difficulties they had and grabbed the "holymotherfuckingshit" parts (7 min mark is bananas). Aloe Blacc kept things moving when the sound cut out and Planet Asia cold murdered it.
Dude takes live MPC playing to a whoooooooole other level. I mean... you're just gonna have to hear it for yourself.

Jeremy Ellis - Live @ Do Over L.A.

Keep in mind this is all live - no quantization and dude was using his hands, elbows, face, etc.

Yeah.

One into Two

I went back and pulled out L.A. Carnival's L.A. Carnival Would Like to Pose a Question yesterday and remembered why this album stood head and shoulders above the rest of the reissues coming out around that time - the songwriting. They encompassed a host of styles from straight ahead funk, to beautiful ballads and social commentary and the horn charts and harmonies on some of the songs are straight facemelting. I was lucky enough to catch their reunion show in L.A. and go back and meet Lester Abrams (who was cool as hell and still in shock from the renewed interest in the group) and then a few months later, POOF! Nothing.
I know the market for these kind of records today is small, but I would've loved to have seen another record made ala Joe Bataan's Call My Name. With the right band it could have been a classic. Maybe some day...at least we still have Pose a Question.

The Real Me

Format always comes correct.
This has been on constant rotation since I got the 7" . The A side is just as dope if not more, but the sound quality is a bit shite as the homies across the pond would say. Any way it goes, it's definitely worth copping.

100 miles and runnin'

What's good everybody, I just wrapped another remix today. This time for Incognito. It's been a very hectic month, but now that these projects are finished I can get finally back to focusing on my album that's taking foreverandafuckingday.
And while that's all swell and terrific, I know the real reason most of you come here and that's for the music, so I'll try to get something up later tonight/tomorrow.

DO IT

If you haven't registered already do it now (I just talked to a friend who's in his 30's and never even voted - wtf?!). No time for half steppin.

All it takes is 3 minutes.
