Hey y'all, I literally just got home after being gone for almost a month and there's a shitload to catch up on! A lot has gone down including new releases from the fam y mas.
Exile has a new solo rap album called 4TRK Mind. This has been in the works since before we went on tour a couple years back. Don't buy it.
People Under The Stairs just released their 8th (!) album Highlighter, becoming the first record in history to be recorded in 24-bit HD-AAC. I'll let Thes explain the audiophile nerdery below.
I had a crazy ass trip, including DJing a wrestling match in Holland with Kid Koala, rocking The Do-Over in Berlin with Benji B & Waajeed, playing "I Am Somebody" to a packed crowd in Paris the day of Mehdi's funeral (words cannot express), barely making it out of Moscow in one piece and finally ending with a week in Vegas DJing Justin Timberlake's golf tournament (which only added to the WTF of this whole month).

Rest in Power Alphonso "Fonce" Mizell (1943-2011). He and his brother Larry have been a huge influence on me since I began making music. I had no idea how much of an impact they made until I realized how many of my favorite records they were involved with. The list of artists go from Bobby Humphrey and Donald Byrd to The Jackson Five, Marvin Gayeand beyond.
I was fortunate to have met him during a Red Bull Music Academy brainstorm session in my hometown earlier this year. Needless to say, I ran home and grabbed a record for an autograph (I'm the guy who doesn't get "starstruck", but this was a once in a lifetime chance to meet my musical heroes). He was in poor health at the time, but coming home this week to find out he had passed hit me deeply.
Friend and fellow blogger Matthew Africa made a mix last year celebrating the genius of their production career. I highly recommend checking it out and reflecting on one of the greatest producers of our era.
Just got back from a hevay Do Over weekend in Portland with the homies Thee Mike B, Cosmo Baker (who utterly crushed the whole building), Dirty Dave, Haycock, Devonwho and the sisters Dimepiece. Always a good time and never a dull moment with the crew. Here's a few pics from the festivities...

Hey everybody, I know shit has been chirp city over here as of late, but I have not forsaken thee... I wanted to let you all know I'll be heading back to Europe again this fall. SO - to everyone who's hit me on the blog, FB, Twitter, carrier pigeon, smoke signals etc. about coming to their city, now is the time. I still can't believe after all the mail I've gotten from England over the years I still haven't rocked London, Bristol or anywhere in the UK. Somebody make that happen!

I've been incredibly blessed not only with this music thing, but in my life in general, and I'm grateful. So I'm back home trying to decompress, still reeling from the feeling of the last month. From PUTS to Moodyman and back. There's not enough room (or time) to post all the stories and inside jokes, but let's just say that everything from having my bag stolen the 1st night on tour (laptop, records, the whole 9)...and returned, to signing records, bodies and boobs, to doing illicit activities in the wee hours of the a.m. have all taken place within the span of the last 3 weeks. Good times indeed...
Before I get to the music, I want to give a huge thanks and shout out to Thes, Double K, Grace, Red Bull Music Academy, Recloose, Frank Booker, Serato HQ, Kenny Dixon Jr., Kez, Spelunk, Exile, Mark, Conch Records, Hit It & Quit It, George FM, Base FM, Takas, DJ Mu, everyone who came to the shows and New Zealand on a whole. I've said it before and I'll say it again, one of the best things about traveling is hearing local music you would never find out about otherwise. Recloose recommended this album to me and it's been on repeat ever since. Here's a few joints from NZ's own Lord Echo. This record has a million influences and they all blend together to create something unique. I'm feeling it. Here's two very different joints off his Melodies album.

Hey everybody, hope you all are good out there. I've been staying busy with family, DJing and playing 1 Man Band in the lab, but I wanted to give everyone a quick update.
I was blessed to rock The Do Over last Sunday and all I can say is, it was definitely one of the funnest gigs I've done. Jerome Baker set it off with the classics, Bobbito dropped the crazy latin/bossa/funk 45 set, Peanut Butter Wolf did an awesome MJ video tribute and Mayer Hawthorne, Bilal, Rich Medina, DJ Scratch (who sat behind me during my set. No pressure.) and Spinderella were in the house. Audio should be up in a few weeks. Thanks to Haycock, Mr. Strong, Mr. Blacc, Mr. Rules, Mr. Shoes et al. #sotice

My man Ruckazoid (aka Ricci Rucker) just sent me some music and all I can say is holy shit. Dude has been BUSY. He's got dozens of albums on his new site from remixes, to scratch joints, to electro, to boogie/80's, hip hop and everything in between. Guaranteed there's something for everybody in there.
Probably one of the most talented and misunderstood dudes I know (Who else can go from this to this to this?). He's in his own lane and poised to take over this year.
Just to give you all an update on what's going on with your dude, I've wrapped up my remix for Quantic and I won't be doing any other side project work for a while. I'm about to lock myself in the studio indefinitely. It's long overdue. So, with that said, I'll still post from time to time, but the blog (and the internet in general) is gonna have to take a backseat for a minute. Thanks to everyone who's been keeping up with me on here. I WILL RETURN
