Here's a cut from the new Dwele album Sketches of a Man. I'm a big fan of dude and from the clips I heard this is gonna be another solid record. You can cop the whole thing here.

Give it Up, Turn it Loose

Christie's is auctioning off James Brown's estate. Everything from his furniture and jewelry, to instruments, personal notes, GRAMMY'S and other awards (wtf?!), clothing....even his hair dryer and passport (wtf X 2).
Part of me wants to break out the credit card, but I can't help but feel kinda strange about the whole thing. Shouldn't these things be in a museum? A lot of this is borderline sacrilegious to pawn off for money. I'm surprised they don't have his toothbrush up there. Any way it goes, there's some wild stuff.

Cottdamn computers! I finally had to step it up and get a new one now I'm trying to move everything back which means putting in every program, plug-in, password, folder, PLUS learning Vista (yay.). So, needless to say blogging isn't my numero uno today, but never fear, I got you.

Future Primitive

I had just finished working on my own, similar project called People Music when this came out (which I'm still contemplating posting) and was really digging this album. Just simple, honest songs. You can tell he was feeling his way through and pressed record.
I dug the record out (A Little Bit of Somethin') today and it fits perfect for the summer. Enjoy and have a good weekend y'all.

There's not a problem that I can't fix

Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton, authors of How To DJ Right and the awesome book you see above, have started their own blog: http://djhistoryuk.blogspot.com.
Easily one of the best books on the history of DJing (from some of the earliest stories of people rigging old phonographs together and having them explode in the club, to present day DJ's like Qbert) and a must have for any DJ. Be sure to check them out. They've already got some great content up.

Fantasy

Marc Mac (4Hero, Visioneers) takes on Johnny Hammond's classic, "Fantasy" complete with live band. I got this promo a few weeks ago and was blown away at how on point this version is. They do a pretty faithful cover right down to the vocals. The Faze Action remix is also banging and works well on the dancefloor. Definitely pick up a copy if you see it. I'm interested in hearing what the rest of the series will be like.

Johnny Hammond's Gears is one of my favorite albums of all time and a must have for any music lover. While I like some of his Kudu records, his work with the Mizell Brothers on Gears and Gamblers Life is some of his best. That should come as no surprise though - who doesn't sound good with the Mizell Brothers?

Flashback '92

More randomness from way back. This was Divine Styler's first single from his sophomore LP Spiral Walls Containing Autumns of Light (Giant 1992). While I never really got into the whole experimental/superscientifical vibe of the album, this song was my shit. It's good to hear something from back then that still holds up today. That beat is like running through a battlefield. Too bad they never released the instrumental.
Maybe it's time I go back and re-listen to the whole record...
Shout to Bronx Style Bob wherever you are.

Overload

My man U-Tern has posted dozens of live battles and performances dating back from Kool Herc and the Herculoids vs. The L Brothers @ Bronx River in 1978 to the Juice Crew live in '88. He's also got a bunch of classic NMS battles (Cash Money vs. Joe Cooley) and everything in between. Believe me this is not to be missed.

Heavy Heavy Heavy

This is straight melting my face right now. I'm in here getting bent digitizing records (my life story) and came across this LP cut from Bloodstone. It doesn't get much better than this.
Shout out to Art Laboe.

WTF in the World?

Son, don't risk it.

A man was stopped and threatened with arrest for wearing an Optimus Prime t-shirt at London's Heathrow Airport. Brad Jayakody was forced to change his shirt depicting the famous cartoon robot holding an imaginary cartoon gun before being allowed to board the plane.

"It's a cartoon robot with a gun as an arm. What was I going to do, use the shirt to pretend I have a gun?"

Unfuckingbelievable.
