Flashback '92

More randomness from way back. This was Divine Styler's first single from his sophomore LP Spiral Walls Containing Autumns of Light (Giant 1992). While I never really got into the whole experimental/superscientifical vibe of the album, this song was my shit. It's good to hear something from back then that still holds up today. That beat is like running through a battlefield. Too bad they never released the instrumental.
Maybe it's time I go back and re-listen to the whole record...
Shout to Bronx Style Bob wherever you are.

nice one day....i got some early divine styler single as well....he always had the ill flow but it ain't like you can play his stuff at a party....his song he did with dj shadow is the ill sh*t though on the quannum projects lp....

"wee bee foolish" on the brighton beach memoirs lp used that same sample on a song called "pimp shit" and yeshua da poed is also a master of the rhyme and flow. I'm sure you're already a fan....man has it been almost 10 years since they came out??

the stuff divine styler did with "styles of beyond" is my favorite stuff. His production and all their flows remind me of just some ill scratchin....

by the way, i've been enjoying your blog and plan to leave comments from the beginning once I get a moment....

I saw you and yosaku got a gig comin up....he came up to Santa Cruz and deejayed in my living room for my birthday for like 3 hours straight....it was good to catch up on what he'd been up to....he killed it with his clean mixes and fresh tracks....then we had a wannabee skratch piklz (but sucked a lot worse) time at the end where we were havin skratch sessions like we were in 95'....

he hates doin that kind of stuff but I forced him anyways....it was pretty funny.....I made him copies of some other mix cd's I made and i'll hit him up to see if he can make copies for you incase you need yet more muzak...

anyways, keep droppin the breaks, chords, and scratches on the masses....i picked up your credit is due mix some time ago but have been rockin it again recently and I must say - you are a scratch maniac!!!...that breakdown with the mpc and "wanna battle me you gona get served" cut is "the definition of ill i reflect"....

I thought I had some decent patterns and kinda clean stabs but you makin me need to keep practicing.....paz.....

Haha, thanks Kikko, I appreciate the comments.
A little trivia for you re. Divine Styler and Styles of Beyond.
Takbir's (from SOB) brother produced Divine Styler's "Sayin' Nothin" and also produced "Jump Around" by House of Pain. I remember talking to him years ago and bugging off that. Listen to the use of the horns on both of those songs and you'll see what I mean.

Anyway homie, thanks again for the support!

peace
Day
