Last Impressions

People have probably been wondering what I've been up to and to be honest, not a whole lot. I've mostly been spending time with my family and living life. Outside of DJ gigs, music kinda took a backseat. I guess you could say I was in a slump or producers block or whatever. I just lost interest in it and wasn't feeling most of the stuff I was making. I think I got complacent (read: lazy) after accomplishing most of my goals. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to get signed to a label (check), put out a record (yep), tour and see other countries (a little bit) and, of course, be a DJ (doin' it).
I lost that fire for a minute, but it's a new year and I'm innit2winit.

I didn't just sit on my ass the whole time tho...

A few months ago I was approached by Thierry at Vadim Music to do a remix for Janko Nilovic. Being the record nerd that I am, I was honored and jumped at the chance. For those not familiar with the prolific pianist and composer, he's probably best known for his "Impressions" library series* which command $ in the record world. He created some very unique music and much of it has been re-issued. If you like Axelrod, Gainsbourg, etc. I highly recommend checking him out.

The project I'm involved with is called "Last Impressions" and features remixes of Janko's work from various producers (Kid Loco, 7 Samurai). It's due sometime in Feb.

Here's a clip. First half is the original, then my take on it.

Janko Nilovic/DJ Day - "Chorus for Leslie" (original & remix)

*For those reading this and saying "library?"
Library records were (and still are) music composed for commercials, television and sometimes film, and a modern day producers best friend.
