my lil homie
I'm not that big on Halloween (and you know I'm already burnt out having kids), but I had to do something for today...
Here's a quick scratch sentence I made for Halloween a few years ago. I got the bright idea to dress up and lurk at the gig all night without anyone knowing it was me, then bust out with my superawesomescratchroutine. People figured it out in about 20 seconds.
DJ Day - Halloween cuts
Here's a couple other random (and I do mean random) records I dug out that are quasi Halloween and/or evil related.
Aphrodite's Child - The Battle of the Locusts
This schitt ^^^ will NOT be for everyone, but I can get down with some stuff like this. There's a little surprise in there for the scratch nerds (D-Styles headz know the deele).
Franco Micalizzi - Bargain With the Devil
This is from an Italian horror movie soundtrack I came up on a while back. The movie is basically Rosemary's Baby goes to Italy, but the music is pretty ill.
This last cut is more on a Halloween porno vibe so you might want to save it for the end of the night.
Have a good weekend y'all - don't be (too) stupid!

The Choice is Yours 2008
Austin, TX – October 29, 2008 – Dres of the platinum-selling hip hop group Black Sheep has revitalized the 1991 hit The Choice is Yours, rewriting lyrics and donating his time and services to create an innovative pro- Obama voter initiative video. Partnered with Austin based creative teams at Voodoo Cowboy Entertainment and Super!Alright! Media in an all-volunteer effort, Dres re-recorded and shot the updated version of The Choice is Yours in Austin, Texas in just under two days.
Corny? A little, but I'm a sucker for schitt like this.

Workable Wednesday
Here's a mixable 8 bar intro/outro edit I did of Q-Tip's "Move".
The Renaissance is dope and definitely worth dropping ends on when it hits Nov. 4th.

I Pioneered This
The first time I ever heard this record was on Michael "Mixxin" Moor's "Militant Master Mix" radio show on KCRW (dude was also responsible for helping break everyone's favorite DJ savior, DJ Shadow BITD). We used to trade tapes of his shows and he was always way ahead of his time. Michael Moor was a legend in the Los Angeles music scene and unfortunately not enough people know about him or give him the props he deserves. His show helped shape my sound and gave me hope that there were other people out there making the kind of music I wanted to create. This one goes out to him. If anyone has any of those old shows please drop me a line.

Daily Bread
Here's a track off the new Daily Bread 12" I did with Aloe (and Dr. Oop who wasn't credited on the song I'm posting [?!]). The project was supposed to be a throwback type of vibe on some Pharcyde/ '93 Til Infinity era ish. In other words - fun. Yo, what happened to
Daily Bread (Aloe Blacc & DJ Day) - That's That (feat. Dr. Oop)
Alright y'all, I'm off to the dentist. Wish me luck. I don't fear needles and all that, but I'm not looking forward to it...

Riker vs. Bear
A few years ago my man BSides (sorry, no info available at this present time) made an album of beats titled Riker vs. Bear. It was given out to friends and passed around on Soulseek and then he went in a totally different direction musically, making more commercial rap beats and producing music for The George Lopez Show. It's been a while since I've talked to him, but I still listen to this record from time to time. Today was one of those days.

Like You Say You Do
As you can probably tell from my posts this week, I've been on mellow mellow (right on) mode and so I'm gonna end it on the same note. I recently got a promo of the new Menahan Street Band album and it's just as good as I thought it would be. Most people will know them from Jay-Z's "Roc Boys" (Jay basically rapped over the title track, "Make The Road By Walking") and from various other projects with The Dap Kings, Antibalas, El Michaels Affair, Joe Bataan, Budos Band etc. (basically that whole ill community of musicians coming out of New York). I've been a fan of all those cats for years and it's good to see them finally get some shine. I also posted up one of my favorite Lee Fields 7"'s that he recorded with some of the band. This joint will be worth $ one day - TRUST!
Enjoy and have a good weekend, y'all...

Sweden's got...soul?
Yep.
The voice coming out of this face does not compute, but Paul Mac Innes is one soulful cunningham.
I'm sure I'll get a late pass on this one, but Mukatsuku Records (UK by way of Japan...releasing a Swedish group...yeah.) just dropped a limited 7" by Paul Mac Innes & T.B.O.I. that I'm digging in a major way. I bought (yes, paid for!) the MP3 I'm posting below, so if you're feeling it, go to iTunes or Amazon and support these dudes by copping their new self titled album.

Coachella Valley Art Scene interview
Most of you probably know I live way the hell out in the desert. While most people have all kinds of ideas of what "Palm Springs" or "Coachella" is, it's probably not what you think. The Coachella Valley Art Scene has been holding it down for the music and art community out here. I recently did an interview with them about the local scene and what I've been working on.
You can check out the interview here.
Lovebug
Herbie's been coming up a lot this week, both in conversation and revisiting his music (and even on the blog - check the Exile post). Truly a genius like no other and a big inspiration to me.
Here's a new remix project with Kenny Dope and Mr. Scruff. Enjoy and have a good weekend everybody.
Herbie Hancock - Watermelon Man (Kenny Dope Extended Mix)
Herbie Hancock - Wiggle Waggle (Mr. Scruff Mix)
This video gets me every. single. time. Anyone know what wtf he's doing @ 6:30? Last I checked, my ARP couldn't do that.

Trav Williams
I stumbled on Trav Williams last night checking good 'ol Myspace (does anyone even use that shit anymore?) and all I can say is, look out. If there was still an Unsigned Hype column this cat would be in it. Dude sounds like a b-boy Too Short. "Moment" had me geekin' and I haven't felt that way in a long, long time. I just wish they would have kept the beginning sample through the whole song. You can cop the whole album for free below. It's definitely worth checking out.

Ino not Eno
For those who might have missed out on Ino Hidefumi, here's your chance to catch up.
The first record I ever heard was his "Spartacus" 7", which is a favorite song of mine (check Gabor Szabo and Yusef Lateef's version). He's since released other 45's plus a full length LP (Satisfaction) and he just dropped a new album, Living Message. Dude's formula is simple - Rhodes + dirty ass drums = beautiful music. You'll like it too.
